Plantation Shutters — Summerlin Master Bedroom
A 4-window master bedroom suite in The Trails, Summerlin. The homeowner wanted café-style operation so the top half could open for morning light while the bottom half stays closed for privacy from the neighboring lot.
The challenge
West-facing windows took direct afternoon sun. The original 2-inch faux wood blinds were warped and warming the bedroom several degrees above the rest of the house.
What we installed
We installed 3.5-inch louver polywood plantation shutters in pure white, frame-mounted for a built-in look. The wider louver gives a cleaner sightline with fewer horizontal lines, and the polywood blocks roughly 73% of heat transfer compared to bare glass.
The outcome
The room is now 6-8°F cooler in the afternoon. The homeowner can leave the upper halves angled open for daylight while keeping the lower halves closed for privacy. Total install was about 4 hours.
